Online group buying goes mainstream
We’ve also witnessed the rise of Facebook deals and Groupon as everyone seeks to find a great deal in these recessionary times and experiments with Facebook commerce. Rumours abound that Google is going to acquire group buying site Groupon which suggests a forthcoming battle with Facebook deals and also speculation as to what will happen to LivingSocial which is a popular group buying site with 10 million users. Expedia has been launching national deals on Groupon in the UK and has obviously taken a first mover step.
These recent moves suggests that online group buying for discounts will go mainstream and we’ll be avidly checking these sites for the best deals of the day for our area. Colleagues are already telling me they are hooked and cannot resist a good bargain. |

The growth of “moblogging” and the power of the mum blogger
As confirmed in Technorati’s “State of the Blogosphere” there has been a big increase in mobile blogging as the use of smart phones increases sharply and a concentration of blogging about brands by the “mum” blogger who are influencing key buying decisions more than ever before as also reported in New Media Age. Women seek these trusted female communities for advice on holidays, products and service as trust in mainstream media declines. According to this global blogging survey corporate bloggers are in the minority (1% of total) although self employed bloggers make up 21% of the total blogging community. |
